I've had a hundred favorite singers over my lifetime, but today, I would like to post on my current two. Let me start with Jackie Evancho, who is all of 12 years old with the voice of a mature and operatic angel (note how she is growing up in the following sequence):
At the age of 10, Jackie ended up #2 in America's Got Talent. That year she became the best-selling debut artist of 2010, the youngest top-10 artist in U.S. history and the youngest solo artist to go platinum (one million). In 2011 she was ranked as the top ClassicalAlbums Artist. She just this week was featured in a PBS Great Performances special called Jackie Evancho: Music of the Movies. Her older brother Jacob sang a duet, and he, too, was good. She sang from her latest album, Songs from the Silver Screen. Yes, Jackie is growing up:
At the age of 12 she now looks to be approaching 20.
Carly Rose Sonenclar (above) is 13, and is known as the lovable little girl with the huge voice. Watch her playing the piano and singing "Imagine." Her rendition of Adele's "Rolling the Deep." I have to think that she is the favorite to win the X-Factor competition this year.
Why? She is competing against a middle-aged country and western singer (and how many of these fans are across the nation?), Tate Stevens, and a hybrid of five individual singers Simon Cowell tried to harmonize, and largely failed. The Fifth Harmony (teenagers, two at 15) are okay, and should be quite good in time, but they are not the best today.
The X-Factor final shows are always entertaining. They will each be two hours long on FOX on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Last year Melanie Amaro won the $5 million recording contract, here with her mentor Simon:
Guests included Justin Bieber, Stevie Wonder, Pitbull and many others. This year? For the record, the British X-Factor winner this year was James Arthur. He earned a one million pound contract.

But back to my favorites, #1 is Jackie because she sings songs of my era. Carly Rose mostly does today. I don't know much about today.
