The summer has only begun, and already, a number of interesting developments:
1. It was 15July2012 when PSY released Gangnam Style. Nearly 1.7 billion views later, it is still racking up the pings. Even one of the sleeper films of this summer, This is the End, features it. This summer, Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines, already with 74 million clicks, might well be that song. There is a beat, but maybe the attraction are those topless models (he is the male on the left) is the draw. He's been around a decade and I never previously heard of him.

3. It will get hotter this summer, with my posting this past Friday providing some background. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 658 people die in the U.S. every summer from too much heat. How serious is this? Well, in 2008, 108,500 in the USA died from too much cold. Every year nearly 60 million die worldwide. Thus, I've long felt that global warming is so relatively benign on a year to year basis, that decision-makers will let this condition continue to worsen, for there is no compelling life or death crisis. What convinced me was a scene from Baghdad a couple of years ago when they were suffering from 120+ F temperatures, and I saw women covered in black walking around along the street. They do have air conditioning there, but there are frequent blackouts, and people survive.
4. DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act): the cartoon of the summer could well be Lady Justice and Lady Liberty hugging in joy:

There is Hurricane Dalila in the East Pacific at 75 MPH heading for Hawaii, but she will fizzle in a few days:
