Everyone tells me that my posting are far too lengthy. But that's because I use a lot of graphics. The number of words is almost always way less than one page of a typical newspaper. Yet, with Twits and such, people just don't like to do any more. So, from today, I will mostly only post short articles, but maybe more than one a day if anything important happens, like Hump Day.
A college degree is important and here is why you should major in engineering:
The above bar graph is from the upcoming (August 2013) issue of MONEY. So college grads over a lifetime earn about a million dollars more than high school grads But if you get an engineering degree, you will earn $2 million more. IF YOU ARE A HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT, you will make only one-third what a college grad will get over a lifetime. SEND THIS POSTING TO A PARENT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR CHILDREN!
All the above is verified by other major studies, which go on to show that a PhD earns around a million more than a Bachelor's Degree, and engineers, indeed, are the highest paid majors. Further, chemical engineers get more than other standard (ChE, EE, CE, ME) engineers. Maybe most importantly, ChE grads almost assuredly will get a job. Of course, I am a PhD chemical engineer.
Mind you, college is NOT for everyone. Some should go the vocational track, and others should do what Bill Gates and Steve Jobs did...drop out of college. Who also gave up? Mark Zuckerberg, Frank Lloyd Wright, Buckminster Fuller, James Cameron, Tom Hanks, Harrison Ford, Lady Gaga and Tiger Woods. But I'd take the college degree path as a matter of pure common sense, for what are the odds of you becoming the richest man in the world or best golfer? Here is a rare photo of Jobs and Gates more than 20 years ago.
